Utilities companies, such as electricity, oil and gas companies, coal producers, and renewable energy companies, are primarily involved in energy production.

They are key influencers in the energy market as they produce, distribute, and supply energy to meet the demand of consumers and various sectors, as well as being significant energy users to implement these operations.

They play a crucial role in meeting the energy demands of consumers and managing the grid to ensure a reliable supply of electricity. This means that their influence in the transformation into more carbon friendly options into the energy mix is paramount.

As users, they often operate power plants and utilities responsible for generating electricity, that in themselves consume significant amounts of power to heat, light and run processes. These companies produce energy from various sources, oil, natural gas, coal, and renewable energy sources to generate electricity or provide other forms of energy (solar, wind, hydro, thermal etc,) and distribute it through transmission and distribution systems to homes, businesses, and industries.

Many energy companies are expanding their renewable energy portfolios and investing in clean energy sources. This shift is driven by environmental concerns and renewable energy targets set by the Government. They can implement energy conservations and emission reduction measures, invest in carbon capture and storage technologies, support research and development of clean energy solutions, and participate in sustainability initiatives with customers. Their actions can influence the overall energy consumption patterns and contribute to a more sustainable and low-carbon future.

Energy companies may collaborate with governments, businesses, and individuals to develop and implement energy-saving measures, such as efficient appliances, smart grid technologies, rebates and incentives and energy management systems.

Energy companies often implement demand response programs to manage energy consumption during peak demand periods. By incentivising consumers to reduce or shift their electricity usage during high-demand periods, energy companies can balance the supply and demand, avoid blackouts or brownouts, and optimise the operation of the power grid.  On a more commercial scale, we offer this service to suitable businesses through Gridflex. In order to increase their carbon-friendly credentials, it is critically important that utilities companies not only roll out carbon reducing solutions to customers, but also subscribe to these for their own operations such as heating, lighting and chilling.

Calibrate can help in this mission by proposing and installing solutions to transform an organisation’s energy profile and meet the Government’s agenda to reach net zero. We can support in making the transition to installing renewables, as well as upgrade or expand existing systems, making your business more sustainable and positively impact your bottom line and carbon profile.
