Hotel
The hotel in Durham is situated in over 70 acres of beautiful, tranquil parkland, with 56 bedrooms. There’s an elegant restaurant with a terrace, and an on-site pub serving a bar menu. There’s also an 18-hole golf course, as well as an indoor pool, a steam room, a hot tub and a gym. Spa treatments are also available, as well as meeting and event spaces.
Within one week Calibrate Energy Engineering had arrived on site and completed all of the trench work around the hotel, a total of 1km of pipework. This was done with no downtime to the hotel or inconvenience to staff or guests.
The Introduction.
The 440kW Ground Source Heat pump system manages 95% of the yearly onsite heating and hot water demands.
It is used to heat the:
- Hot water (running bath/shower)
- Radiators in all rooms and public areas
- Swimming pool and Jacuzzi
- Pub
- Gym
The Figures.
The Heat pump system will earn/save £1,377,490 return on investment with the Government 20 year tariff.

17km of pipe work connects 5 plant rooms to the 3 golf course zones of in ground pipework. Through installing the largest Ground Source Heat pump System in the North East, Hal Garth Hotel & Country Club have become pioneers for energy efficiency in the hotel industry.
